25!

The 30 Day Challenge is officially over. I officially did not do 30 classes, but I did do 25 and I think that's rad.

amateur night at ye olde yoga studio

Class 24. One day to go... one class to go. Hopefully it's better than tonight's class which was probably the worst class of the month. It was like I had forgotten everything I know about the yoga. I had too much to eat between work and yoga. I thought drinking water was going to save me. I was going loco in my head with my usual 'what would it take to get some air in here' thoughts. It was really not that pleasant.

In other news, I'm trying to figure out a vacay for fall... There are lots of fun options - visiting my friend C. who moved to Sydney or my other friend C. who moved to London... or maybe Bikram yoga in Phuket Thailand... http://bikramyogaphuket.com/bikramyoga_holiday.htm

The subconscious wants what the subconscious wants...

Yesterday was class #22. I have little to no memory of it. I know I was there but I have no comment on it because I can barely remember it. Today's class (23) was a bit more memorable because it happened less than an hour ago. I wasn't really enjoying class per se, but I was surviving so I thought. Then second set of fixed firm comes along and instead I started doing head to knee with stretching. Didn't work though - I made eye contact with the instructor and she was looking at me like 'WTF are you doing?!?' and she didn't agree with my subconscious that thought camel and rabbit should be skipped.
In other news, I've reached the point in the challenge where hydration and nutrition are falling by the wayside a bit. Argh. Oh well.
Just three more days!

21!

For those of you keeping track at home, you may be noticing a slight discrepancy between the date and the class count. Yes, that's a thing. Friday I was absolutely exhausted from the work week and yesterday I spent time with friends and friends' babies. But I was back on my mat this morning. I practiced with my mom. Here's to hoping that I'm still doing yoga when I'm my mom's age!

Funny yoga tweet

Just saw this on Twitter and I was amused by it...

@Kendragarden: I don't use my yoga certification to teach yoga, I use it to let bitches know I'm more flexible than they are.

Namaste, bitches.

19!

Not much to say about tonight's class. I went in as an angry yogi and left as a tired yogi. My hips and knees were feeling a little jangly but other than that, all is well.
Namaste.

My yoga challenge can vote!

Yesterday was class #18 for me! Woo hoo!
Not much to report. I laughed, I cried, I did yoga. Actually I don't think I laughed or cried, but I did do yoga. And I figured out a new way to wear my hair during class. Doing lots of yoga makes me want to shave my head, but I don't think my coworkers or my hair stylist would be in favor of that... so weird low tucked under pigtails it is!

day 17

Good class tonight. Crazy day because I didn't go home in between work and yoga. Now I am oh so tired. Going to go to bed after I finish this post even though it's at least an hour earlier than I normally go to bed. Overall, my body has held up pretty good with this challenge. I have a couple of theories about why I'm feeling better than I did the other times I've done lots of yoga... 1. coconut water is bullshit. My recovery beverage of choice these days is Coca-cola and I think it is magical. I drink an 8 or 12 oz can of Coke after almost every class and it makes me feel alive, much more so than the coconut water ever did! I used to get leg cramps fairly regularly and it's only happened once this month and that was the night I ran 3 miles and then did yoga. For me, the electrolytes (and sugar) in Coke seem to replenish my body better than coconut water, gatorade and/or juice boxes ever did. 2. (and this is the real difference) I think getting in my car and driving after yoga was not good for my body. These days, I walk home after yoga and I think it helps keep my body a bit more stretched out after class.

thanks for the encouragement!

Did my 16th class today. My yoga challenge can drive now :) (can't take credit for that joke - one of my teachers said it in class the other day!)

I've been getting a lot of positive encouragement over the last few weeks so I just wanted to say thanks for that. Lisa Lynn left me a super sweet comment, one of the teachers at my studio said he found my blog and liked it and the dude working at 7-11 where I bought a coke after class asked me what kind of yoga I do and how long I've been practicing. I have a fantastic group of friends but none of them are really into Bikram yoga so I'm thankful for the community online and at my studio who have been so supportive. I love putting my star sticker on the poster board at the studio every time I go to class. Feeling gratitude for the yoga and for yogis/yoginis right now.

Namaste :)

-2

Yesterday was class #13 for me. It should have been #15 but I hit the yoga wall earlier in the week and missed two days of practice. So now I'm looking at a 28 day challenge instead of a 30 day challenge... But that's still a lot of yoga!

29 Day Challenge doesn't have as much of a ring to it, does it?

I didn't go to yoga today. Life is stressful and busy right now - so yeah, it's just normal and it's life, but I couldn't get myself to my mat today. My studio doesn't allow any doubles during the challenge so if you miss a day, you have no chance of completing the challenge.
Kind of a bummer, but I'm drinking a cup of tea and watching 'Dance Moms' so there's that. :) And practicing 12 days in a row was pretty rad.

I'll get back on my mat tomorrow...

Day 12

I've laughed, I've cried, I've done yoga for the past 12 days.

It's good - it really is.

What day is it???

Just kidding. Yesterday was day 7 and it was the hardest day so far. I signed up for a new running group which started last night. I intended to go to 6am yoga but that didn't happen so I had to go to class at my old studio after I ran. It was brutal. My calf cramped, my mat was sliding around (they took the carpet out) and I was just hating life. And today at work I've been grumpy... but it's almost the weekend and overall I'm really liking the yoga!

Day 4

Most crowded class ever but really good. My mind felt calm. I wasn't fighting being in the room - I was just going with the flow.

Day 2 and Day 3

Class Friday night was a bit tough because I was choosing to be in the yoga room rather than out with friends. Saturday morning I was up at the crack of dawn (or actually before that) so I could eat before 8am yoga. Class was tough - I never feel bendy at morning classes but overall, I'm happy that I've committed to this yoga challenge! 10% done!!!

Day 1

Yesterday was Day 1 of my new 30 day challenge. It was really hot but really good! My studio has a 30 day challenge poster where we track our classes with stickers. Good times!
In other news, my practice has drastically improved over the past two months or so. I lost 10 pounds and now that I'm rocking less t&a, I'm way more bendy. I went all the way back in fixed firm last night - something I thought would never happen!
